Martha L. Harold, age 82, a long-time resident of Glenville, West Virginia, died on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at Cedar Grove Senior Assisted Living in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Born July 19, 1934 in Spencer, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Millard A. West and Fannie Irene Goodwin West. She was first employed at Hardman Supply Company in Spencer, West Virginia, where she met her future husband, Charles E. Harold. They were married on September 2, 1954, and she moved to Glenville after the marriage, as he had become manager of Glenville Supply (later named Hardman’s). Martha and Charles celebrated their 62 wedding anniversary on the day before her death.
Martha began working at Kanawha Union Bank in 1957, and continued her career with the bank, retiring as a vice-president from its successor, United Bank, in July 1996.
Martha was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and several civic organizations in Gilmer County. She particularly enjoyed attending sporting events and singing in the church choir and with the Gilmer County Senior Citizens.
In addition to her husband, Martha is survived by her daughter, Anita Harold Ashley, and her husband, Bob, of Spencer, and her son, Steve Harold and his wife, Renee, of Rensselaer, Indiana. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ben Ashley of Charleston, Sam Ashley of Bakersfield, California, Katie Harold of Ripley, and Allie Harold of Rensselaer, Indiana, and a sister, Clara B. Roberts, of Vienna.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, West Virginia, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, with Rev. Mark James officiating. Burial will be in the Harold Cemetery at Newton, West Virginia, in Roane County. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at the funeral home in Glenville. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church, 112 East Main Street, Glenville, West Virginia 26351, the Harold Cemetery, c/o Dee Truman, 253 Uler Road, Newton, West Virginia 25266, or a charity of your choice.
