Velva Charlene Taylor, 88 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life in the afternoon hours of Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the Genesis Health Care Glenville Center following an extended illness.
She was born March 2, 1934 in Ivydale, WV; daughter of the late Charles Cecil and Mauga Mae Cain Wayne.
Velva is a graduate of Walton High School, class of 1952 and a lifelong homemaker who loved caring for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible. She is a Christian by faith and longtime member of the Duffy Full Gospel Church.
On April 17, 1953 Velva was united in marriage to Clifton H. Taylor who preceded her in death on January 28, 1982.
Surviving are 2 children, Robert E. Taylor (Eunice) of New Milton, WV; and Catherine Doak of Glenville, and 4 siblings, Wilma Hern of Glenville, Jim Wayne (Mary) of Charleston, WV; Randal Wayne (Pat) of Spencer, WV; and Margaret Henderson of Martins Ferry, OH.
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Robert C. Taylor, Matthew S. Taylor, Jeremy R. Taylor, Lucas J. Taylor, and Stephen A. Doak, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with her husband and parents, Velva is preceded in death by her son, Dave H. Taylor, and 2 siblings, Virgil Wayne and Betty Olene Wayne.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Sunday, July 31, 2022. Burial will follow in the Moore Cemetery near Walton, WV. Friends will be received from 12:00 noon – 2:00 PM; Sunday at the mortuary in Glenville.
