Jackie Ray “Jack” Greathouse, 79 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life in the late evening hours of Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the WVU United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV; following and extended illness.
He was in May 2, 1945 in Gassaway, WV; son of the late Joe and Zana (Perkins) Greathouse.
Jack worked as a millwright for Babcock and Wilcock Enterprises, Inc., having retired in 2005. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed playing bluegrass music, spending time with family and friends, and he is a Christian by faith.
On May 20, 1994 Jack was united in marriage to Laurie (Shafer) Greathouse who survives at the home in Glenville.
Surviving are 4 children, Harold Greathouse of Akron, OH; Leona “Fay” Newhouse (Mike) of Akron, OH; Michael Greathouse of Akron, OH; and Desiree Czerpak (James) of Akron, OH; and 2 siblings, Charles “Buck” Greathouse of Newport News, VA; and Roy Greathouse of Akron, OH.
Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his parents, Jack is preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Gillespie, 4 brothers, Don, June, Edward, and Carl Greathouse, and 5 sisters, Ema, Wilda, and Wanda Greathouse, Helen Snyder, and Hazel Greathouse.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Sunday, January 12, 2025 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Due to weather, road, and cemetery conditions burial will take place privately in the Fairview Cemetery, near Chapel, WV the next day. Friends will be received from 12:00 noon – 2:00 PM; Sunday at the mortuary in Glenville.
