Hylbert Earl Miller, age 88 of Letter Gap, WV; went home to be with the Lord in the early hours of Saturday April 18, 2020 following an extended illness.
He was born to Hylbert and Lelia Wiant Miller on January 10, 1932 in Glenville, WV.
Earl was a hard-working man and a near “perfectionist” when it came to all the many “projects” he had over the years, especially his carpenter work.
He served four years in the US Navy during Korean War. His proudest time was the time he spent aboard the “U.S.S. Missouri”. After working several years in Cleveland, Ohio he returned to Glenville in 1962, where he owned and operated the Log Cabin Service Station for nine years. After a few years working as a carpenter he went into the oil field where he retired from Trio Petroleum in 1994. He was a Baptist by faith and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren. Always trying to pass on all the skills he had.
Earl is survived by his loving wife Janice Kuhl Miller of 60 years, one daughter Kathy (Lloyd) Willis of Strasburg, Virginia, 3 grand-daughters Jessica Weathersbee (Jim) of Normantown, Erikka & Allyson Willis of Strasburg, Virginia, 6 great-grandchildren Brook Hottle (baby girl due May 2020), Jonathan Hottle, Xzavier Willis, King Conner, Nevaeh Weathersbee, and Roevon “RJ” Holton.
Also surviving are three sisters Eadra Cox of Lost Creek, Willa (Jesse) Conrad of Grafton, Ohio, Barbara Miller of Mt. Clare, WV; three brothers Donald Miller of LaGrange, Ohio, Orval Miller of Morgantown, WV; and William “Skip” (Freda) Miller of Elyria, Ohio, and 6 step grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Earl is preceded in death by brothers Allen, John, & Eldon Miller and a sister Wanda Parsons.
He will be sorely missed by his entire family & friends especially for the knowledge and wisdom he had stored in his head.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department of which Jonathan is a member.
Due to the current restrictions on public gathering because of the Covid-19 pandemic the family will have a private graveside service at the Turner Cemetery near Lockney, WV; on Wednesday April 22, 2020 with Pastor Richard Westfall officiating.
