Gary C. Coberly age 74 of Glenville, WV departed this earthly life on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the West Virginia Hospice House in Elkins, WV; surrounded by his mother and cousins, who loved him very much.
He was born April 21, 1946 in Glenville, WV, son of the late Champ Clark Coberly and Ruby Garrett Coberly of Glenville.
Gary is a graduate of Glenville High School, class of 1964 and received his college degree from Glenville State College in 1968. He taught high school art at Williamstown High School and ended his teaching career as a professor of Art at Towson University in Towson, MD. While he was teaching at Towson, he took many trips to Europe with his students, and specialized in the art history of Turkey. He was also a guide for adult groups, later in his long educational career.
Gary was a talented artist and specialized in decorating and making all manner of Flower arrangements.
He is survived by his loving mother, Ruby and numerous cousins on both the Coberly and Garrett sides of the family.
Gary’s request for cremation has been honored and there will be no visitation or services. His ashes will be spread by his family at a later date.
One of Gary’s desires was to establish an animal shelter in Gilmer County. Gary requested that any monetary contributions made in his name be made to Hospice of West Virginia, 169 Diamond Street, Elkins, WV 26241.
