Phyllis Kay Evans, 75, of Mt. Zion, WV; departed this earthly life suddenly on May 20, 2022 at the Minnie Hamilton Hospital in Grantsville, WV; following a tragic accident. She was born July 10, 1946 in Orma, WV; daughter of the late Clyde and Obal Laughlin Houchin. Phyllis is a graduate of Calhoun County High School, class of 1964. She received her AB degree in teaching from Glenville State University in 1978. She taught 4th grade at Arnoldsburg Elementary School for 28 years, having retired on June 6, 2006. She however taught an extra year in kindergarten at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, mawmaw, aunt, and friend. She devoted her life to her family and enjoyed making lap quilts, shopping, working in her flower bed, and spending time with her family. She was a mawmaw to many, but the greatest joy was being mawmaw to Barrett and Brady. On September 3, 1965 she was united in marriage to Lee Evans. They spent 56 wonderful years together and he survives at their Mt. Zion home. Surviving are 2 children, Seana Miller and husband Brian of Mount Zion, and Brian Evans also of Mount Zion, 2 grandsons, Barrett Shea Evans of Williamstown, WV; and Brady Douglas Miller of Mount Zion, sister, Barbara Powell of Lubeck, WV; and sister-in-law, Verba Jean Cargill of Franklinton, LA. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends. Along with her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her sister, Janet Marks, and sister-in-law, Aileen Panrell. Phyllis’s request for cremation has been honored and also per her request no memorial services will be conducted. Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., is honored to assist the family of Phyllis K.
