Betty Lorena Byrd, 83, of Glenville, WV. went to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side after a hard-fought battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on August 26, 1938 on top of Powell Hill in Glenville, WV; and was the first born to the late Charles and Ruth Langford Greenlief. Betty is a graduate of Normantown High School class of 1957. She also attended college at Parkersburg Community College. She worked as an office assistant at the Gilmer County Health Department for 27 1/2 years before retiring in 1999. On November 27, 1959 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Asel “Whimp” Marlon Byrd, who survives at their home on Little Bull Run Road. They shared 62 beautiful years together and from that union two children survive; Carol Beam (Danny) of Glenville and Tressa Byrd (Scott) of Linesville, PA, three grandchildren; Sarah Moyers of Glenville, Taylor Chadwell (Ethan) of Normantown, and Hunter Ashley of Clarksburg, seven great-grandchildren; Laynie & Holly Moyers, Noah Kniceley, and Easton, Eli, Emersyn, & Tucker Chadwell. Also surviving are three siblings; Wanda Frederick and Emma Byrd of Glenville and Steve Greenlief (Joyce) of Burnsville and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends. Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by three children; Lecia Mae Byrd, Charles Asel Byrd, and an infant son, four siblings; Linn Greenlief, Kenny Greenlief, Midge Greathouse, and Linda Nolan, and one great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Moyers. Betty enjoyed attending church at the Sand Fork Church of God of Prophecy and she loved her church family. She enjoyed singing and reading her Bible, working crossword puzzles, going to the senior center to visit friends, sitting on the porch while watching the birds and wildlife, going shopping, getting pedicures and her hair done, going out to eat with her husband, decorating for Christmas, cooking for her family every Sunday, and spending time with her family who she loved so much. She was a precious lady of God who always had a smile on her face. She was always giving and spreading kindness and love wherever she went. Her sweet, caring, gentle spirit will never be forgotten and she is missed and loved by so many. Friends will be received from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating, with burial to follow in the Rhoades Cemetery near Glenville.
