Lloyd G. “Buck” Stephens age 78 of WV Hwy 5 West of Glenville, departed this life on the evening of Friday, March 11, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 8, 1938 in Huntington, West Virginia, Buck was the son of the late James T. and Genevieve Snyder Stephens.
Buck was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a former employee of West Virginia Paving, Summers Construction, and Kinney Shoe Corporation, where he was an Assistant Superintendent. He was involved in volunteer work in the community of Glenville, including past president and board member for the Glenville Recreation Center. He also worked on a special project for building a new addition and restrooms to the Recreation Center building. He was also recognized by the Gilmer County Economic Developments Association as Outstanding Citizen of the year.
Buck was a volunteer for the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security, Red Cross, and Emergency Management and helped in many disaster relief efforts. He was a Christian by faith and attended the Little Kanawha Independent Church. Buck will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
On August 14, 2015 Buck was united in marriage to Karen J. Mounts, who survives at their Route 5 home.
Surviving are 2 grandchildren, Christopher Glen Pegg and Cassie Linn Ward of Glenville, WV; 4 great-grandchildren, Damon Dobbins, Kaden Pegg, Caleb Putnam, and Mackenzie Ward of Glenville, WV; 4 step children, Marsha Wine (Chad), Melody Borlaug (Shannon), Danielle Hamric (Andy), and Quentin Cain, and 6 step-grandchildren, Jakob and Josh Gragg, Hannah Turner, Caitlyn and Gage Wine, and Hayden Hamric, all of Glenville, WV.
Also surviving is 1 brother, Charles William Stephens and 4 sisters, Mary Etta Rowsey, Sally Keefer, Maxine Cole, and Nancy Scarberry, all of Huntington, WV.
Along with his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Sue Blackwell Stephens, 3 children, Thomas Stephens, Jeanne Dawn Stephens, and Karen Sue Rollyson, and 1 sister, Cecelia Parsons..
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 16, 2016 with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Barboursville, West Virginia. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday evening at the Mortuary in Glenville.
