Mary Josephine Langford Ours passed away on August 20th at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, WV from sepsis. She lived in Glenville, WV and was 81.
Mary Jo was born in Baldwin, WV on February 28, 1935 and was the daughter of Beryl and Leo Madalyn Langford.
She graduated from St. Albans High and West Virginia University (WVU) with a BS degree in Education and later earned her MS in Education from WVU. She began her teaching career working with Special Needs students at Buffalo High School in Putnam County and retired after 30 years from Kanawha County Schools as a reading teacher at South Charleston Junior High School. She was a member of the WV Education Association, NEA, Pilot Club, WVU Alumni Association, Red Hats, WV Golden Horseshoe Winner, Girls State, United Methodist Women, Alpha Delta Kappa and many others. She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville, and when she lived in St. Albans, WV, she was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.
Mary Jo loved entertaining friends and family, traveling, shopping, playing bridge, the beach, and in her later years enjoyed reading and playing Bingo. She loved Christmas and celebrating with family. She was compassionate with a generous spirit and many, many friends.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, and in 1998 her former spouse, Samuel Weldon Ours, Sr. She is survived by her son and his partner, Samuel Weldon Ours, Jr. and Falah Abbas of London, England; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Gregory Dennie of San Antonio, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Reth of Millersville, MD. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Ashley Wilkerson, Mary Katherine Vaughn, Alex Parrish, Sarah Hubal, Parrish Matthew Wolfe, Nicholas Ours, and Samuel Parrish; great granddaughter, Audrey Grace Vaughn; and great grandson Matthew Bennett Wilkerson.
A service to honor the life of Mary Jo Ours will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville with Pastor Mark James officiating. Burial will follow at Stalnaker Cemetery, Glenville.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, August, 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ellyson Mortuary in Glenville.
