Maxine Cloy Clark McCartney
November 9, 1925 - September 18, 2016
Maxine Cloy McCartney Clark age 90 of Ashland, Ohio, formerly of Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2016 at the Hospice House of North Central Ohio, in Ashland following an extended illness.
Born November 9, 1925 in Draco, AR; Maxine was the daughter of the late C. A. and Selma Thomas McCartney,
On December 23, 1945 Maxine was united in marriage to Lyle Cark who preceded her in death on September 10, 1991.
Little did Maxine know that her marriage to Lyle on December 23, where he worked in the oil fields of southern Illinois and the birth of their son, and daughter, and a move in 1960, that Maxine’s life would end up in the oil and gas boom of Gilmer County. After 15 years in southern Illinois, Initially, Maxine wondered how she ended up in Glenville, but in a few days she realized she was home.
After a tragic oil field accident her son Wilbur was admitted to the Glenville Health Care Center on May 12, 1986 and for the next 23 years she became Glenville Cares number 1 volunteer. She would go twice daily every day even as bad as she hated snowy roads she showed, not only to care for Wilbur but anything else she could do. The nursing home has a birthday party for their residents. From the very beginning until Wilbur’s death on January 4, 2009. She baked the monthly birthday cake for the residents and even after Wilbur’s death the monthly cakes did not stop. Maxine was also the 1st recipient of the Mary and Martha Volunteer Service Award for her 23 years of tireless devotion to the Glenville Health Care Center.
At 5:15 PM; on Sunday, Maxine went to heaven but “as her daughter put it” she left her heart in Glenville. Maxine was a member of the Glenville Rebekah Lodge, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenville.
Surviving is 1 daughter, Carol Fox and husband Jim of Ashland, Ohio, 2 sisters, Evelena Wells of Ben, AR; and Wincie Wells of Sennville, MI; and Connie Clark Minney of Troy, WV; whom she still considered her beloved daughter-in-law.
Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, husband and son, Maxine was preceded in death by 1 brother, Claude McCartney.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Saturday, September 24, 2016 with Rev. Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Troy I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Troy, WV. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM; Friday evening at the mortuary.
