Arley R. Layne age 72 of Sandridge Road, Calhoun County, West Virginia, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, December 1, 2016 at his residence with his loving wife Peggy by his side. Born September 8, 1944 in Logan County, Arley is the son of the late Floyd Layne and Alice Lockhart Layne Skeens.
Arley was a miner and foreman in the coal industry with 28 years experience. He was a Christian by faith, an avid hunter, and caregiver to his son, Randy. His greatest love was for his family, he was described by his loving wife, Peggy as a great family man and always there when you needed him. In his spare time, Arley enjoyed caring for his farm and was always making sure it was in perfect condition.
On January 29, 1965 Arley was united in marriage to Peggy Cook Layne, who survives at their Sandridge home.
Surviving are 2 sons, Ricky Layne of Mt. Zion, and Randy Layne of Normantown, 2 siblings, Drema Parsons and husband Roy of Russell, KY; and Walter Layne and wife Karen of Ashland, KY; 2 grandchildren, Robert Layne and wife Kayla and Arley Layne and wife Stephanie both of Sissonville, WV.
Also surviving are 2 great-grandchildren, Devyn and Landyn Layne of Sissonville, and 3 sister-in-laws, Nina Layne and Karen Layne of Dahlonega, GA; and Patty Mangus of Mt. Zion, and a host of nephews, nieces, 3 half sisters, 1 half brother, and 2 step-sisters.
Along with his parents, Arley was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jessie M. and Hansel Layne and 1 daughter-in-law, Shannon Layne.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church along WV Hwy 33 West in Stumptown, WV; at 1:00 PM; Monday, December 5, 2016 with Pastor Tim Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Community Cemetery in Stumptown. Friends will be received from 11:00am-1:00pm Monday at the Church.
