Geraldine Ruth Marks Minney

Geraldine Ruth Marks, age 88, of Normantown, WV; departed this life Friday, July 7, 2017 at United Hospital Center Clarksburg after a brief illness.
She was born December 8, 1928 in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Straud and Ena Allen. On January 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Ralph J. Marks who preceded her in death on November 1, 2002.
Geraldine moved her letter of baptism to Oak Grove Baptist Church in the early 1960’s where she taught Sunday School and was the Clerk for many years. While her children were little she was a 4-H leader in the community. She wrote Around the Kitchen Table for the Gilmer County Newspaper and Yesteryear and Today for the Braxton County Newspaper for many years. These writings brought her the recognition of being a WV History Hero in 2003 and receiving the WV Press Association Lifestyle Columnist Award. She was a Thimbles and Thread Quilt Guild Member for many years which allowed her to continue learning and honing her quilt craft. In 2007 she was recognized as the Normantown High School Alumnus of the Year. The most important to thing in her life was family.
Surviving are six children: Jo Ann (Mike) Hill of Normantown, WV; Marina (Roger) Stewart of Normantown, WV; Steven (Kathy) Marks of Inwood, WV; Timothy (Debra) Marks of Glenville, WV; Daniel (Melinda) Marks of Augusta, WV; and Regina (Todd) Stewart of Camden, WV; three brothers and two sisters: Eugene Allen of Stumptown, WV; Harold Allen of Stumptown, WV; Ronnie Allen of Concord, NC; Connie Allen of Rohnert Park, CA; and Caren White of Stumptown, WV; and a daughter-in-law, Shelia Marks of Milton, WV. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members.
Along with her parents and husband, Geraldine was preceded in death by her oldest son, Michael Marks and her son-in-law, Roger Sprouse.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Oak Grove Baptist Church near Normantown, WV; at 11:00 AM; Wednesday, morning July 12, 2017 with Elder Roger Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM; Tuesday, July 11 at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc; in Glenville and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
