Neva Lynn Gainer Ellyson

Neva Lynn Gainer, age 88, of Glenville, WV departed this life in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV following an extended illness. She was born on November 23, 1928 in Cox’s Mills, WV daughter of the late Avon B. and Roxy Williams Ellyson.
Neva was a graduate of Tanner High School, class of 1947, and a graduate of Glenville State College, where she received her teaching degree in elementary education. She retired in 1984 with 34 years experience and in that time had taught at Pine Grove, Rosedale, Cedarville, Normantown, and Peach Tree.
In her spare time, Neva enjoyed shopping, collecting antiques, traveling, cooking, and she was an excellent candy maker. Her true passion in life was her family, she loved caring for and spending time with everyone and especially her three beautiful grandchildren.
Neva was also a Christian by faith and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Sand Fork.
On February 16, 1952 Neva was united in marriage to Earl J. “Tex” Gainer, who preceded her in death on January 2, 1990.
Surviving is one son, Earl Mark Gainer and wife Drema of Bridgeport, three grandchildren, Jason, Justin, and Carolyn Gainer, all of Bridgeport, and three siblings, Rosa Belle Cunningham and Mary Jo Cunningham of Glenville, and Hale Ellyson of Jane Lew, WV.
Along with her parents and husband, Neva was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Gail “Bud” Ellyson.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery near Glenville. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM, Friday evening at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family of Neva request memorial contributions be made to the Tanner High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Rosa Belle Cunningham, Treasurer, P.O. Box 12, Glenville, WV 26351 of the charity of your choice.
