Lafie Lynn Marks
November 5, 1945 - September 28, 2017
Lafie Lynn Marks, 71, of South Lewis Street, Glenville, went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Thursday, September 28, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness. Born November 5, 1945 on Lynch Run in Gilmer County, Lynn is the son of Phyllis M. Frashure Marks of Glenville and the late Jesse J. Marks, Sr.
Lynn attended Tanner High School and graduated from Troy High School, Class of 1963. He served three years in the United States Army and spent time in Korea as a postal clerk during the Vietnam War. In 1971, he graduated from Glenville State College with a degree in Teacher Education.
After a short time teaching, Lynn became a postal clerk in Glenville and finally retired as a Post Master in Big Bend, WV in 2005. He was very active in his community and was a member of the Glenville Lion’s Club where he helped with many projects over the years and was a regular while selling hotdogs at the carnival and West Virginia State Folk Festival. Lynn was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Farm Bureau, Post Masters Retirement Association and the Stonewall Jackson Reenactment Unit out of Weston from 1988 to present.
In his spare time, Lynn enjoyed being a public servant, hunting, fishing, admiring classic cars, attending Glenville State College ballgames, and singing in the Gilmer County Senior Center Choir. Lynn was also a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Glenville where he served cheerfully in several capacities.
Surviving is his son, Thomas Lynn Marks and wife Alicia of Glenville, 1 grandson, Tyler Bruce Meadows of Glenville, 1 sister, Iris Ann McCartney and husband French of Parkersburg, 1 brother-in-law, Jennings Law of Glenville, and 1 sister-in-law, Barbara Marks of Linn.
Also surviving are 4 nieces, Ginger Law of Wilkesboro, NC, Crystal Law Miller of Fairmont, WV, Paula McCartney of Clovis, CA, and Donna McCartney Curran and husband Ed of Wichita, KS, 2 nephews, Jesse J. Marks, III and wife Lenora of Linn, and Justin Marks and wife Becca of Summersville, WV, and numerous great nieces, great nephews, and other family and friends.
Along with his father, Lynn was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Jane Law in 2010 and his brother, Jesse J. Marks, Jr in 2012.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV, 26351 at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 4, 2017 with Rev. Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery in Glenville, with full military honors provided by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM Tuesday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
