Arlene Carol Sprouse Harper age 78 of Glenville, WV; formerly of Normantown, WV went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born January 23, 1940 at Lockney, WV, Carol is the daughter of the late Edgar Lytle & Hazel Grimes Sprouse.
On November 16, 1962 Carol was united in marriage to George W. “Sam” Harper who preceded her in death on June 16, 1977.
Carol was a member of the Upper Steer Run Baptist Church near Normantown. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are 4 children, Sherry Smith (Steve), Jim Harper (Jennifer), Jeff Harper (Rose) all of Glenville, and Brian Harper of Normantown, 7 grandchildren, Willie Smith of Amherst, Ohio, Steven Smith, Patrick Harper, Jonathan Harper, Dustin Harper, Kayleigh Harper, and Thomas Harper all of Glenville, and 3 great-grandchildren, Katie and Benjamin Smith of Amherst, OH; and Stevie Smith of Glenville and one great-granddaughter due to arrive in June.
She is also survived by several sisters & brothers: Elaine (Roy) Morris of Cox’s Mills, Janice Hendershot of Sand Fork, Verle Sprouse of Normantown, Corlis (Randy) Stump of Normantown., Eileen (Mike) Richardson of Spencer WV., Janette (Dave)Ramezan of Sand Fork WV., Sharon (Doyle) Zirkle of Mabie WV., Stephen (Carol) Sprouse, Kenneth Sprouse & Colin Sprouse all of Normantown WV., & numerous nieces, nephews, grand & great nieces & nephews
Along with her husband and parents, Carol is preceded in death by her brothers, Delmas and Roger Sprouse & infant brother, Calvin Leon Sprouse, and sister, Betty Jenkins.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Upper Steer Run Baptist Church on Steer Run Road near Normantown at 11:00 AM; Thursday, May 24, 2018 with Pastor Roger Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Turner Cemetery in Lockney, WV. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM; Wednesday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
