Bridgett J. Skidmore Chapman, age 82, of Glenville, WV; departed this life on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center in Grantsville, West Virginia, following an extended illness.
She was born April 30, 1937 in Braxton County, WV; daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Carr Skidmore.
Bridgett is a graduate of Gassaway High School, class of 1954. She is also a graduate of Glenville State College, with a 2 year degree. Bridgett helped her husband Jack with the family business, she was the owner/operator of Bridgett’s Dress Shop in Glenville for several years, and worked at the USDA in their Glenville office.
In her spare time, Bridgett enjoyed working on family genealogy, tending to her flower garden, and watching Ice Road Truckers, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Gilmer County Historical Society.
On April 21, 1955, Bridgett was united in marriage to Robert Blaine “Jack” Chapman, who preceded her in death on April 13, 2016.
Surviving are 4 sons, Larry Chapman and wife Amy of Glenville, WV; Robert Chapman of Glenville, Daniel Chapman of Glenville, and D. Duane Chapman and wife Julie of Glenville, and 1 sister, Margaret Knapp of Akron, OH.
Also surviving are 3 Grandsons, Thomas (Shay), Brett (Stephanie), and Jacob Chapman, 3 Granddaughters, Devon, Abby, and Sarah Chapman, 4 Great Grandsons and 2 Great Granddaughters.
Along with her parents and husband, Bridgett is preceded in death by 9 siblings, Sylvia Carr, Beatrice Skidmore, Wilsie Hashman, Wilber Skidmore, Ruby Boggs, Betty Hamric, Marie Chapman, Hunter Skidmore, and Dallas Lee Skidmore.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc.; 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Sunday, May 19, 2019 with Pastor Jeffrey Kanode officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery in Glenville. Friends will be received from 4-8 PM; Saturday evening at the Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 255, Glenville, WV; 26351 in Bridgett’s honor.
