William E. “Piper” McCord, age 76 of Toler Fork Run Road, Sand Fork, WV; (Dusk Camp Community) departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Genesis Health Care, Salem Center in Salem, WV; following an extended illness.
He was born July 16, 1942 in Gilmer County, WV, son of the late Enic and Genevieve Conrad McCord.
Piper was a coal miner in his younger years, and in his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering around the house and hunting when he could. Piper is also a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Sand Fork and will be greatly missed by his church family.
On December 16, 1993 Piper was united in marriage Nora F. Curtis McCord, who preceded him in death on November 21, 2012.
Surviving are 3 step-children, Loretta McCumbers of Sand Fork, Robert Ball and wife Louise of Sand Fork, and Harvey Ball and wife Georgiana of Victor, WV; 5 grandchildren, Jessica Montgomery (Mark) of Baldwin, Erica Dennison (David) of Glenville, WV; Steven McCumbers (Amanda) of Sand Fork, Christopher Ball (Angel) of Normantown, WV and Shawn Ball (Megan) of Sand Fork, and 1 sister, Carolyn McCord of Sand Fork.
Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren, his church family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
Along with his wife and parents, Piper is preceded in death by 5 siblings, James E. McCord, Martha Sergeant, Virginia Black, Charles McCord, and Roger McCord.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Church of God of Prophecy in Sand Fork, WV; at 1:00 PM; Wednesday, May 22, 2019 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating.
Burial will follow in the Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery on Dusk Camp Run Road.
Friends will be received from 11 AM – 1 PM Wednesday at the Church in Sand Fork.
Following graveside services, there will be dinner in Piper’s honor at the Church of God of Prophecy, all are encouraged to attend and share in food and fellowship.
