Zeldia Mae Jones, age 75, of Sand Fork, WV, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2019, in the presence of her family at Mon General Hospital. After a valiant and lengthy battle against illness throughout most of the year, including the past three months spent in hospital care, Zeldia spoke often of wanting to go home; and so, on that cold and rainy Tuesday morning, Zeldia received her permanent discharge from the hospital to begin her journey to her eternal Home.
Zeldia was born in Trosper, Kentucky on January 28, 1944, daughter to the late Beverly and Rosella Marcum Butler. In addition to her parents, Zeldia was preceded in death by three Sisters: Ruby Wilson, Charlotte Butler, and Lois Hembree; and 1 Brother Randall Butler.
On August 9, 1966, Zeldia was united in marriage to Randall Wilson Jones with whom she shared 53 years together. They met while she was waitressing at a car hop restaurant and they decided almost immediately that they were destined to be together.
Zeldia is survived by her husband, Randall “Ranny” Jones; daughter, Melinda Sine and husband Cary, of St Albans, WV; daughter, Melissa Jedamski and husband Bert, of Sand Fork; and son, Randall Wilson Jones II “Bub”, of Morgantown, WV; four grandchildren: Emilie Jedamski, Bryce Sine, Evan Jedamski, and Cassidy Sine. Also surviving are two sisters: Mildred “Mickey” Hembree; and Linda Sue Hamby; and four brothers: Thomas Butler; Charles Butler; and twin Brothers Jerry and Chester “Ray” Butler;
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and other wonderful family and friends.
Zeldia was a long term member of Glenville Church of Christ and was a person of simple needs who came from simple means. While she did not complete secondary school in her youth, she achieved her GED while also raising her family, and even earned several hours of college credit at Glenville State College. While Zeldia was primarily a homemaker for her family, she also contributed to the family through employment: as a cashier at Glenville Foodland; as a substitute cook for the Gilmer County school system; and, as a cook at the Gilmer County Senior Citizens Center.
While Zeldia did not like for her picture to be taken, she had a beautiful and infectious smile. She enjoyed flower gardening, spending time with her family, talking to her dear friends and family on the phone; and spending time with her dog Angel. But, there was probably nothing that made her happier than her Grandchildren, who she loved dearly and, in turn received much love and adoration from them in return. Some of Zeldia’s meals, such as brown beans and cornbread, cucumber salad, wilted lettuce, or potato salad will also be missed.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Saturday, December 21, 2019 with Pastor Charles Brady officiating. Burial will follow in the Jedamski Family Cemetery near Sand Fork. Friends will be received from 4:00-8:00 PM; Friday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
