Charles Edward “Ed” Talbott age 90 of Glenville, WV departed this life suddenly in the early evening hours of Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his home on lower Leading Creek Road.
He was born October 1, 1930 in Lewis County, WV; son of the late Stewart Brooks and Freda Beryl Garrett Talbott.
Ed is a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1948 and a graduate of West Virginia University, class of 1953, where he received a degree in agriculture. Ed also played basketball in both high school and college.
He worked as a foreman for the United States Department of Agriculture, and retired from the USDA in 1987 to continue with beef farming. Ed also started a dairy farm, and taught vocational agriculture at Troy High School.
Ed was a member of the Free Masons, Kanawha Valley Lodge #36 in Buffalo, WV; active in the 4-H club, medical board, and was a long time member and Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Glenville.
Upon retirement and wanting to give back to the community he became part of the water board to help get water throughout Gilmer County. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed riding bikes, roller skating, golfing, camping, vacationing, fishing, farming and his faith in God. He enjoyed parades and fairs and attended World Fairs in New York City, Montreal, Canada, Tennessee, and as a child he attended the World’s Fair in Chicago with his parents.
On November 23, 1951 Ed was united in marriage to Mabel Lisette Wellings Talbott, who survives at their Lower Leading Creek home. In 3 weeks Ed and Mabel would have celebrated 69 years of marriage together.
Surviving is their daughter, Debra Cunningham and husband Fred of Glenville, 2 step-grandsons, Chad and Dustin Cunningham, and 1 sister, Norma Janet Mertz of Camden, WV.
Along with his parents, Ed is preceded in death by an infant brother, Orvin D. Talbott.
A private family funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 2020 with Pastor Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery near Glenville.
