Dora Bell Smarr, 77 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life just before midnight on Friday, April 30, 2021 at her home following an extended illness.
She was born March 12, 1944 in Gilmer County, daughter of the late Hazel and Goldie Butler Reed.
Dora was a homemaker and former employee of Glenville McDonalds. She loved caring for her family and spoiling her grandchildren whenever possible and in her spare time, Dora is a Baptist by faith and enjoyed sewing, reading horror novels, watching scary movies, and scratching lottery tickets.
On September 27, 1964 Dora was united in marriage to Murl Junior Smarr who preceded her in death on October 4, 2016.
Surviving are 6 children, Donna L. Fox and husband John of Glenville, Brandi Williams of Longview, TX; John Smarr and wife Katina of Dusk Camp, Lisa D. Smarr of Parkersburg, and William Smarr of Glenville, a step-daughter, Melissa Francis and husband Shawn of Barberton, OH; a daughter-in-law, Lisa K. Smarr of Glenville, and 4 siblings, Linda Osbourne and husband Dennett of Auburn, Christina Dorsey and husband Danny of Longview, TX; Barbara Hornsby and husband Ray of Auburn, and Robert Reed and wife Nancy also of Auburn.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, with 2 great-grandsons and 1 great great-grandson on the way, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with her parents and second husband, Dora is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Lee Smith, a son, Gary Smarr, a granddaughter Lacy Smarr and 4 siblings, Howard and Cecil Reed, baby Everett Reed, and Goldie Mae Jones.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary and Cremation Services, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 5:00 PM; Thursday, May 6, 2021 with Pastor Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Auburn Cemetery near Auburn, WV; along Rt. 74. Friends will be received from 2:00 – 5:00 PM; Thursday at the mortuary in Glenville.
In accordance with the mandates set forth by the State of West Virginia, masks or some kind of facial covering must be worn inside the mortuary establishment and social distancing must be observed.
