Carl L. Conrad, age 94, of Elyria, OH, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021 at his home at The Abbewood Assisted Living Community.
Carl was born on September 19, 1927 in Perkins, WV and had lived in Elyria since 1953.
Carl graduated from Normantown High School, where he was a member of the Vikings State Championship Basketball team. After graduation he immediately joined the U.S. Navy, had basic training in Baltimore, MD and deployed on the Destroyer USS Dickson. He served as a gunner’s mate and spent most of his service time in the Mediterranean near the end of WW II.
After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Carl married his high school sweetheart, Luanne Miller and they were married for 64 years until her death in 2013.
He was a graduate of Glenville State College and earned his Master’s Degree from West Virginia University.
He taught Vocational Agriculture and Shop class and he retired in 1983 from Lorain City Schools where he was a biology teacher and Head of the Science Department at Southview High School.
Carl was a founding member of the North Ridgeville Church of Christ where was an elder for many years, an avid Bible student and Bible class teacher. He enjoyed hunting and gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Carl is survived by his siblings, Pauline Conger, Jaki Pearce and Jess Conrad; daughters, Susan Farley (Jerry) and Jill Spriestersbach (Todd); 7 grandchildren, Jerry Jr., Joshua (Ann Marie), Jesse, Seth (Alicia), Michelle (Paul), Daniel (Liz), Ashley; 12 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Andrew, Kate, Titus, Eliza, Trey, Brooklyn, Raelyn, Mia, Anaiah, Annelise and Logan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Tacie Conrad, brothers, Lee, Paul, Glenn, sister Josephine Mohr and his wife of 64 years Luanne (Miller).
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Duke Funeral Home in Grafton, OH on Monday, November 22, 2021 with Memorial Service immediately following at 12:00 noon, officiated by Evangelist Terry Sanders, of Paragould, AR.
A heartfelt traditional burial with full military honors will be observed at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 24 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Normantown, WV.
