Billie Grogg, 84 of Kanawha Street, Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life in the evening hours of Saturday, March 19, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 2, 1937 in Tanner, WV; son of the late Leamon and Amy Stalnaker Grogg.
Billie is a graduate of Tanner High School and a United States Army veteran. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles”. Billie was a hard worker and believed if you wanted something, you had to work for it. He worked for Hall’s trucking for over 20 years, then worked for Waco Oil and Gas and then retired from Ashland Oil. After retirement, he worked at the Glenville Foodland Greenhouse for over 15 years.
Bill is a Methodist by faith and loved playing Rook every Friday evening with family and friends. In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing, and working in his garden. He got a lot of joy growing vegetables, and giving them to his neighbors. He loved telling people about the plants in the greenhouse and just talking to anyone that would stop in. Bill never met a stranger and loved talking and telling stories of old times. Bill loved to tease his friends and if he liked you, he would tease you.
On June 10, 1961 he was united in marriage to Donna Fay Bush Grogg, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2019.
Surviving are 3 children, Curtis Grogg and companion Patty of Glenville, Clarissa Ferrell and husband Steve of Glenville, and Louie Grogg of Newberne, WV; and 4 sisters, Deloris Davis, Katheryn Phillips, Connie Cogar, and Peggy Wade.
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Emilee Nichols and husband Josh of Spencer, WV; Olivia Ferrell of Cape Coral, FL; Dayton Grogg of Glenville, Cody Grogg of Spencer, WV; and Cory Grogg of Newberne, 2 great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Wattson Nichols of Spencer, WV; brother-in-law, Donald “Don” Bush and wife Karen of Tanner, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his wife and parents, Billie is preceded in death by 3 sisters, Freda Amos, Oleana Ferguson, and Dottie Bush and 11 brothers, Donal, Rondel, Marshall, Leon, Freddie, Jack, Steven, Kenny, Keven, Anthony, and Danny Grogg.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Dive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Thursday, March 24, 2022 with Pastor Mike Ford and Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery near Glenville with full military honors. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM; Thursday at the mortuary in Glenville.
