Marilyn Phillips, 86 of Glenville, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV; following a sudden illness.
She was born October 14, 1935 in New York City, NY; daughter of the late John and Esther Smith Wall.
Marilyn is a graduate of Wake Forrest University in NC; and completed her graduate work at the University of Buffalo in NY; where she met her future husband, Donald. After they married in 1959, they moved to Glenville in 1967. She was a homemaker until her children were in high school and then she went back to school at Glenville State College and received her teaching certificate and Masters in secondary education.
Marilyn worked for the Gilmer County school system until she retired in the 1990’s and sent her retirement years enjoying the quiet life in Glenville. She was a long-time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville, Alumni advisor to Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority at GSC, cub-scout leader, 4-H leader, United Methodist Women, Bridge Club, and book club.
On June 27, 1959 Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald Phillips, who survives in Glenville.
From that union a son and daughter survive, David Phillips of East Boston, MA; and Meg Phillips of North Carolina, and a sister, Phyllis Edwards of Indianapolis, IN.
Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and many other wonderful family and friends.
Marilyn’s request for cremation has been honored and a celebration of her life will be included in Sunday services at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville on Sunday April 3, 2022.
