October 29, 1945 - September 18, 2022
Frank Carl Rogucki, FF Pager 139, of Glenville was called home in the morning hours of Sunday, September 18, 2022. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
The son of a coal miner, Frank was born on October 29, 1945, in Rosemont, West Virginia to the late Stanley and Mary Sega Rogucki. Frank moved to Glenville in 1958 with his parents and four siblings. Frank was a 1965 graduate of Glenville High School where he played football and met the love of his life Anna Jean Maddix. Frank and Anna Jean were united in marriage on March 23, 1970 and she survives him in their Glenville home.
Frank attended Glenville State College and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with specializations in Science and Social Studies in 1970. He also attended West Virginia University where he earned a Master of Arts in Education Administration. He served the children of Calhoun County and Gilmer County as a public-school teacher for thirty-six years teaching at Arnoldsburg Elementary School, Sand Fork Elementary School and Glenville Elementary School. He loved teaching children about the wonders of the scientific and historical world during the school year and in the summers could be seen spending time with his wife, children and granddaughter and in his younger years painting houses around Gilmer County with his late friends Arnold Moody and Paul Peggs.
Before attending college, Frank served his country from 1966 to 1970 in the United States Navy on board the U.S.S. Robert A. Owens, the U.S.S. Dewey and the U.S.S. Sierra. Frank was a member of VFW Post 5469 and served as its Quartermaster at one time. Alongside his son, Eric, Frank faithfully served the citizens of Gilmer County as a member of the Gilmer County Volunteer Department for almost fifty years; he enjoyed being a member of the GCVFD and helping the people of Gilmer County.
Frank loved nothing more than spending time with his granddaughter Keely Ann who will miss him dearly and who inherited his love of history and generous heart. He was so very proud of her. He also enjoyed hunting with his son, Eric, neighbor Leon Butler and his late friend Paul. He also enjoyed fishing, reading and watching Pittsburgh Pirates baseball.
He was a Roman Catholic by faith and was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Glenville. He took great pride and enjoyment in taking care of Good Shepherd.
There are not enough words to explain all of the things Frank was to so many people but he was a kind and friendly man who never met a stranger and was always there to be a friend, to lend a hand to help the community and anyone else in need; he will be missed by his family and friends.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Kristi Ann (Kenny) McWhirter, his son Eric Stephan Rogucki, his granddaughter Keely Ann McWhirter, his sister, Teresa Sue (Fred) Shultz of Florida, brother John Charles (Sharon) Rogucki of Ohio, a special brother-in-law Stephen John Maddix of Monongah and his loving cat Patches. Also surviving are special friends and neighbors Mitch Snider, the James E. Collins Family, the Leon Butler Family and numerous other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Rogucki, Jr., his sister, Mary Ann Lawson and his father- and mother-in-law, Steve and Betty Maddix.
