Richard Lee Collins, 86 of Rocky Fork Road, Orlando, WV; (Gilmer County) departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV; following a brief illness.
He was born March 27, 1936 in Sand Fork, WV; son of the late Harley and Hazel Radcliff Collins.
Richard is a former Bus Driver for the Gilmer County Board of Education and a well tender for several local oil and gas companies. In his spare time he enjoyed playing softball, coon hunting, watching wrestling on TV, spending time with family and friends, spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible, and he was a Methodist by faith.
On June 25, 1960, he was united in marriage to Helen Riffle Collins who preceded him in death on June 10, 2015. Helen and Richard shared 54 wonderful years together.
Surviving are 5 sons and 1 daughter, Timothy Mark Collins of Orlando, Danial “Boone” Collins and wife Kimberly of Shinnston, WV; Bessie Mae Collins of Orlando, Bradley Dale Collins and wife Kristie of Linn, WV; Darrell Collins of Orlando, and Brian Keith Collins and companion Betty Gregory of Linn, and 5 siblings, Charles and Agnes Collins of Orlando, Pauline Grimes of Bristol, WV; Mary Wilfong of Chester, WV; and Kathleen Mick of Portersville, PA.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Kellee Hope Davisson (Wayne Strope), Danial Ty Collins (Ali), Tammy Blair (Kenny), Stephanie Rucker, Joshua Rucker, Olivia Collins, Jessica Minney (Luke), Brian Lee Collins (Sarah), Caleb Morgan Collins (Magaira), James Kearns, Christeallia Marie Amorosi, and Rebekah Linn Amorosi, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his wife and parents, Richard is preceded in death by 7 siblings, Brooks, Junior, Raymond, Alvin, Michael, and Opal Collins, and Mildred Riffle and a daughter-in-law, Marie Collins.
A funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 a.m. Friday February 3, 2023 with Pastor Robert Shingleton officiating. Burial will follow in the John Shiflet Cemetery on Turkey Fork Road. Friends may call from 4:00– 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary in Glenville.
