Elden “Mitch” Snider (Air Force Chief Master Retired) passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023. 

Born at home at Letter Gap, WV August 29, 1937, the son of the late Ernest I. and Elsie Mae (Cox) Snider. 

Mitch retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in 1985, with 30+ years’ service. After retirement he worked as Construction Office Manager for Summers Construction Company, Glenville, WV and M&H Concrete Construction (Later C. L. Belt) in Big Otter, WV until 2001. 

He was Post Adjutant (1990-2015) and a Lifetime member of VFW Post 5469 in Glenville, WV and a member of American Legion Post 0004 in Weston, WV. A Catholic by faith he was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Glenville WV. 

He is survived by his two daughters: Tracey Hissam (husband, Kevin) of Kanawha Head, WV, and Jennifer Snider of Jacksonville Beach, FL; his brothers: James Snider (wife, Brenda) of Letter Gap, WV; Larry Snider (wife, Judy) Sutton, WV; his sisters Doris (husband, Bud) Dellinger of Parkersburg, WV, and Frances Tomey of Abingdon, MD; one sister-in-law Kay Moore (Companion, Ron) of Glenville, WV.   Also surviving are his three grandchildren Casey Smith, and Kristyn and Kaleb Hissam. 

Mitch was preceded in death by his wife Arlene (McHugh) Snider (2002) who he married April 6, 1968 in Miami, FL. Three brothers: Ernest Jr and wife Orine (Rhodes), Cline and wife Esther (Stoops), Wallace and two sisters Roxie (husband, Latus) Rhodes and Tincie Bonnett. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gilmer County Senior Center, where he spent many hours exercising and socializing with his many friends. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 701 Mineral Road, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 10:00 AM; Monday, February 6, 2023 with Father Gary Naegele as celebrant. All family and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery near Grafton, West Virginia with Full Military Honors. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday, February 5, at the mortuary in Glenville.
