Robert D. “Bob” Cain, 85 of Tanner, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Friday, July 28, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness.   

He was born, October 18, 1937 in the Tanner community of Gilmer County, son of the late Hartzel and Geneva (Ferguson) Cain.   

On September 5, 1958, Bob was united in marriage to Joyce Ann (McDiffitt) Cain, who survives.   

Bob was a graduate of Tanner High School, class of 1956. He worked as a truck driver, mechanic and eventually a Bulk Plant Manager for Dowell in Glenville. After retirement, Bob managed Glenville Gardens Senior Apartments, as well as doing small carpentry jobs. 

In his spare time, Bob loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a self-taught musician, playing both the guitar and mandolin. His lifelong love of playing & singing old-time and bluegrass music led him to gatherings all over West Virginia with his wife, where they made many dear friends.  

Along with his loving wife, Bob is survived by 4 children, Terri Stalnaker and husband Mike of Glenville, John Cain of Sand Fork, WV; Brian Cain of Weston, WV; and Jessica Crawford and companion John Stevens of Dry Fork (Tucker Co.), WV; and a sister, Delma Smith of Parkersburg, WV.   

Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Stacey Stalnaker and husband Roger Bailey; Quentin Cain; Danielle Hamric and husband Andy; Bobby Cain and companion McKenna Kinney; Chase Cain and wife Grace; Dylon and Logan Husk, and Adam Crawford; 4 great-grandchildren, Jack Norman, Phoebe Bailey, Hayden Hamric, and Grayson Cain, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.   

Along with his parents, Bob is preceded in death by 2 siblings, Dodi Amos and Buddy Cain, and a daughter-in-law, Madge Cain.   

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Bob’s in-home caregivers, who were dedicated to ensuring his comfort and well-being in his later years.  

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Tuesday, August 1, 2023 with Rev. Harold Francis officiating. Burial will follow in the Tanner Baptist Cemetery in Tanner, WV. Friends will be received from 11:00 – 1:00 Tuesday at the mortuary in Glenville.
