Obituaries

Betty Jane Burton, 73 of Weston, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV; following an extended illness.

She was born April 27, 1950 in Gilmer County, daughter of the late Russell and Pauline (Post) Greenlief.

Betty is a graduate of Gilmer County High School, class of 1969. She worked in the banking industry for many years having been employed by the Weston Citizens Bank, Huntington Bank, and Progressive Bank all in the Weston area.

Betty is a Christian by faith and after retirement she enjoyed feeding her birds, caring for her cat (Tiger), working with flowers, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

On July 11, 1969 Betty was united in marriage to Waitman “Bud” Burton, who survives at their Weston home.

Surviving is her loving son, Wesley Burton of Jane Lew, WV; a grandson, Izeke Burton of Weston, and 3 siblings, Gary Greenlief and wife Nancy of Troy, WV; Charles Greenlief of Glenville, WV; and Patricia “Patty” Greenlief and companion Mike of Matthews, NC.

Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.

Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by 5 siblings, Homer, Russell, and Hayden Greenlief, Helen Weaver, and Jean McCartney.

In keeping with her wishes, Betty will be laid to rest privately beside her parents in the Alice Cemetery with Rev. Bill Hunt officiating.
