Jean Marie Steele, 81 of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life in the mid-morning hours of Monday, January 29, 2024 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV; following a brief illness.
She was born March 28, 1942 in Calhoun County, WV; daughter of the late Ottie and Birdie (Parsons) Goodrich.
Jean was a sewer for BF Goodrich in Calhoun and Roane County, in the Engineered Systems Division, having retired in the 1990’s. She is a Baptist by faith and longtime member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
In her spare time, Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping, embroidery, staying connected with Facebook, and spoiling her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren whenever possible.
On November 4, 1962 Jean was united in marriage to Harley Steele who survives at their Normantown home.
Surviving are 6 children, Sharon Dye (Perry) of Big Springs, WV; Jeff Wallbrown of Normantown, Judy Darlene Steele (Fiancée Jerry Posey) of Walkersville, WV; Norma Reed (Robert) of Normantown, Harley Steele Jr. (JoAnn) of Gassaway, WV; and Christopher Steele of Normantown.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with her parents, Jean is preceded in death by 5 siblings, Paul, Dale, and Warter Goodrich, Etta Furr, and Betty Lamp, daughter-in-law, Kathy Wallbrown, and longtime friend, Zura Duncan
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 1:00 PM; Saturday, February 3, 2024 with Nathanil Moss officiating. Burial will follow on the Steele Family farm. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM; Friday, February 2 at the mortuary in Glenville.
