Janice Pearl Hendershot, 85 of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Friday, February 23, 2024 at her daughters residence in Sand Fork, WV; with her loving family by her side.

Born September 25, 1938 in Letter Gap, WV; Janice is the daughter of the late Edgar Lytle and Hazel (Grimes) Sprouse.

Janice was a florist at Dudley’s Florist in Parkersburg with 20 years’ experience. After returning to Gilmer County in 1983, she and her husband Willard operated the “Touch of Spring”, Greenhouse in Normantown until their retirements in the early 2000s. Janice was also a homemaker and loved caring for her family. She was a Baptist by faith and longtime member of the Upper Steer Run Baptist Church near Normantown.

In her spare time, Janice enjoyed gardening, cooking, hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling her grandchildren whenever possible.

On October 11, 1975 Janice was united in marriage to Willard B. Hendershot, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2007.

Surviving are 4 children, Martha Tatman and husband James of Sand Fork, Della Stump and husband  Jamie of Culpeper, VA; Nathan Hendershot and wife Brittany of Frametown, WV; and Daren Hendershot of Weston, WV; 10 grandchildren, Madison Hendershot of Frametown, WV; Willa Tatman of Sand Fork, Jenica McNally and husband Elvin, and Trent, Garrett, Aiden, Conner, Miayah, and Landon Stump all of Madison County, VA; and Christopher Tatman and wife Tammy of Glenville, and 2 great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Marlee Tatman.

Janice is also survived by several brothers and sisters, Verle Sprouse of Normantown, Corlis (Randy) Stump of Normantown., Eileen (Mike) Richardson of Spencer, WV; Janette Ramezan of Sand Fork, Sharon (Doyle) Zirkle of Mabie, WV; Kenneth Sprouse & Colin Sprouse of Normantown, & numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and many other wonderful family and friends, all of whom she loved very much.

Along with her husband and parents, Janice is preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Stump, a granddaughter, Chantell Tatman, and 7 siblings, Stephen, Delmas and Roger Sprouse, infant brother, Calvin Leon Sprouse, Lulu Elaine Morris, Betty Jenkins, and Arlene Carol Harper.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Upper Steer Run Baptist Church near Normantown at 11:00 AM; Tuesday, February 27, 2024 with Rev. Mike Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Turner Cemetery at Lockney. Friends will be received from 4:00 -7:00 PM; Monday evening at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., in Glenville.
