Richard Lee Turner, 67 of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the home of his sister Carolyn Bosley in Beckley, WV; following a valiant fight with cancer.

He was born September 20, 1956 in Normantown, son of the late Harold and Ilene (Reed) Turner.

Richard was a lifelong member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church at Stumptown, who loved the lord, and his brothers and sisters in Christ.

Richard is a graduate of Gilmer County High School, class of 1975. During high school he worked for Billy Burke on the farm. After graduating, he worked for Kinney Shoe Factory in Glenville until its closure in the 1980’s. Then he was employed by American Vending, Aramack, and then Glenville State University, having retired on June 30, 2022. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed farming, living the quiet life in Gilmer County, spending time with family and friends, and he was a member of the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. He also volunteered for numerous organizations in Gilmer County and will be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving sister, Carolyn Ann Bosley of Beckley, WV; and nephew, Robert Bosley and wife Andrea of Franklin, NC.

Also surviving are 4 great-nieces, 2 great-nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, a host of cousins and many other wonderful family and friends, who loved him dearly.

Along with his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his grandparents, R.B. and Rosa (White) Reed and Audy and Lennie (Kuhl) Turner, and brother-in-law, Woody Bosley.

Richards request for cremation has been honored and a private graveside service will be conducted at the Turner Cemetery, at a later date, with Pastor Tim Underwood and Pastor Bryan Groves officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Glenville First Baptist Church Cancer Fund, 217 E. Main Street, Glenville, WV; 26351 or Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802 in honor of Richard.
