Maisie W. Somerville, 91, of Linn, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the mid-afternoon hours of Sunday, August 11, 2024 at the WVU United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV; following a brief illness.
She was born September 11, 1932 in Weston, WV; daughter of the late Con and Wanda (Tharp) Hughes.
Maisie is the former Owner and Operator of Somerville Exxon and Grocery in Linn, WV; a business she and her husband Kline started in 1956 and who has served her community for over 68 years. She was most proud of raising her 3 boys in and around the store and their care and commitment to continuing the legacy set forth by her and Kline.
Maisie is a 1950 graduate of Glenville High School and a graduate of Glenville State College with a 4 year degree in Education. She is a Baptist by faith and longtime member of the Rock Grove Baptist Church. In her spare time, Maisie enjoyed greeting people at the store, watching WVU basketball, watching her children and grandchildren playing local sports (especially basketball), spending time with family and friends. She will also be greatly missed by the morning crew that sits on the liars bench.
On June 12, 1954 Maisie was united in marriage to H. Kline Somerville, who preceded her in death on April 28, 2005.
Surviving are 3 sons, Larry Somerville and wife Leisa of Newberne, WV; and Dana Somerville and wife Diana of Stephens City, VA; and Robbie “Rob” Somerville and wife Darlene of Linn, WV; 6 grandchildren, Devon Somerville (Liz) Franklin WV; Bryant Somerville (Whitney) Pickerington, OH; Taylor Somerville (Tiffany) of Alum Bridge, WV; Olivia Smith (Tyler) Willard, NC; Dreaya Somerville of Winchester, VA; Carly Somerville of Morgantown, WV; and 5 great-grandchildren, Axel, Deken, Penn, Zaidex, and Avery.
Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Maisie is preceded in death by 3 siblings, Donnie and Robert Hughes, and Nadine Mavis Waggoner.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 11:00 AM; Saturday, August 17, 2024 with Pastor Kenny Fisher, Pastor Bryan Groves, and Pastor Doug Moss officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Grove Cemetery in Linn, WV. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM; Friday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
