After 89 years of a full life, Andrew Jackson “Jack” Reed of Glenville, West Virginia has departed this earthly life at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Jack lost the love of his life Wanda Bailey Reed in April of 2023. Jack and Wanda were married for 65 years and are now reunited.
Jack was born in Glenville, WV. on January 20, 1935 in a farm house on Sycamore Road. His parents Brooks and Esta had 4 other children; Marion, Bob, Georgia and Nelson. Jack worked the farm with his family and from what he told, it was not an easy life. He worked from sun up to sundown. In between all the hard work he went to school and graduated from Glenville High School. After high school he joined the United States Army. He served his country with honor and distinction. He came back to Glenville after his 2 year stint in the Army and enrolled into Glenville State College. He and Wanda had been dating for about 5 years at this time and tied the knot. Soon after, they started a family and had twin boys. Dad Graduated from Glenville State College in 1960. The job market was slim at the time and Jack heard of an opportunity in Oklahoma. Jack, Wanda and the twins packed their car up, pulling a U-Haul trailer. Jack worked in the mining business in Oklahoma. When Jack retired, he and Wanda moved back to Glenville and he became a Gentleman Farmer. In his spare time Jack enjoyed playing golf, supporting local sports and spending time with family and friends.
Jack is survived by his 3 sons. Berkley T. Reed of Glenville, Bradley L. Reed and wife Glen of Charleston, West Virginia and Benjamin L. Reed and wife Kimberly of San Diego, Ca; grandchildren Joanna Rose her husband Justin, Jackson Reed, Collin Tuck and his wife Ashly, Presley Tucker, Grayson Tucker, Morgan Reed and Sean Reed, great-grandchildren Astrid and Edie Tuck and a sister-in-law, Cricket Reed of Glenville.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, West Virginia 26351 at 2pm; Tuesday, October 1, 2024 with Rev. Elizabeth Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army and Lewis Co. Honor Guard. Friends will be received from 11:00am-2:00pm; Tuesday at the mortuary, in Glenville.
