Rondal Dale “Ronnie” Smarr, 77 of Linn, WV; departed this earthly life in the morning hours of Monday, October 21, 2024 at his residence in Linn, with his loving family by his side.
He was born January 8, 1947 in Gilmer Station, WV; son of the late John Junior and Garnett (Stout) Smarr.
Ronnie worked in the oil and gas industry for most of his life, having been a laborer, equipment operator and well tender before his final retirement in 2022. In his spare time, Ronnie enjoyed, coaching local youth sports, wood working, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible. Ronnie is also a Methodist by faith and attended the Upper Ellis United Methodist Church.
On March 30, 1968 Ronnie was united in marriage to Rosie (Frye) Smarr who survives at their home in Linn.
Surviving is a son, James Dale Smarr and wife Paula of Linn, and 2 siblings, Shirley Townsend of Glenville and Jimmy Smarr and wife Rachel of Buckhannon, WV.
Also surviving are 3 granddaughters, Brittany Butcher and husband Matthew of Weston, WV; Kelly Lowther of Weston, WV; and Lindsey Harrison and husband Logan of Camden, WV, 4 great-grandchildren Jayce and Gemma Butcher, Brent Harrison, and Olivia Conrad, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his parents, Ronnie is preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Murl Smarr and Dora Smarr, and a brother-in-law, Johnnie Townsend.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Friday, October 25, 2024 with Pastor Donnie Stout officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiney Cemetery near Linn, WV. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM; Thursday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
