John Michael “Mike” Hill, 68 of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 23, 2025 at his residence in Normantown, following a brief battle with cancer.
He was born May 11, 1956 in Elizabethton, TN; son of the late Marcus and Lillian (Chittum) Hill.
Mike was a truck driver for many years for Hall Dozer Co., and he also worked for Babcock Lumber. He especially enjoyed working for the Gilmer County Board of Education as a bus driver and more recently as the Chief Mechanic for the Bus garage. Mike loved caring for the children in his care. When Jo Ann was teaching he would stop by the classroom to visit with her and her students. When he drove bus he made sure the kids were always safe and warm.
Mike and Jo Ann owned and operated the Mike’s Country Store in Normantown for several years. Mike loved treating the kids as they visited the store. He enjoyed making people happy, loved taking trips to the Ohio Amish Country with Jo Ann, and he was a volunteer Firefighter for Gilmer County for several years.
Mike’s first marriage was to Shirley (Bowling) Hill, who preceded him in death in December 1993.
On December 27, 1994 Mike was united in marriage to his second wife, Jo Ann (Marks-Sprouse) Hill, who survives at their Normantown home.
Surviving are 2 children, James Hill (Laura) of Reedy, WV; and Michele Hill of Normantown, 1 grandson, Daniel Hill of Reedy, WV; 1 sister, Charlene Harris of Glenville, and a half sister, Norma White (Willard) of Mt. Zion.
Along with his parents (Marcus and Lillian) and his first wife (Shirley), Mike is preceded in death by 3 half siblings, Richard, Jack, and Brenda Price.
Mike made his profession of faith on March 17, 2015 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church near Normantown. He was baptized on June 21, 2015 into the church and served his Lord and Savior with un-waving faith, dignity, and pride.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Oak Grove Baptist Church 999 Hunters Run Road, Normantown, WV; 25267 at 11:00 AM; Thursday, February 27, 2025 with Pastor Roger Stewart and Pastor Richard Westfall officiating. Burial will follow immediately in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM; Wednesday, February 26, at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351.
