Donald Ray “Don” Butcher, 83 of Cox’s Mills, WV; departed this earthly life in the late evening hours of Tuesday, February, 25, 2025 at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, WV; following a short illness.
He was born March 19, 1941 in Cox’s Mills, WV; son of the late Doy and Pauline (Bush) Butcher.
Don is a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1959. He retired from EQT as a Field Foreman with 33 years’ experience and worked on the family farm all his life. Don loved working around the farm, showing cattle, working in the hay fields, tending to his garden, and spoiling his granddaughter and great-granddaughter whenever possible. Don was also a Methodist by faith and longtime member of the Troy United Methodist Church.
On September 29, 1962 Don was united in marriage to Peggy Ann (Wilson) Butcher, who preceded him in death on September 4, 2012.
Surviving is a loving son, Kevin Butcher and wife Jean of Cox’s Mills, granddaughter, Cheyenne Beall and husband Bradley of Cox’s Mills, 1 great-granddaughter, Hallie Sage Beall, and a brother, R. Larry Butcher and wife Pam also of Cox’s Mills.
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his parents (Doy and Pauline) and his wife (Peggy), Don is preceded in death by a brother, Glendell Butcher.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Sunday March 2, 2025 with Rev. Bill Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Troy IOOF cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife Peggy. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM; Saturday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Gilmer County High School FFA, c/o Nick Cox, 300 Pine Street, Glenville, WV; 26351 in honor of Don.
