Donald Ward Beamer, 82, of Alton, Virginia, formerly of Glenville, West Virginia, departed this earthly life on March 8th, 2025 at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Don was born in Caress, Braxton County, West Virginia, on September 7, 1942 to parents, Ward and Trecie (Blagg) Beamer. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1960 and served in the Army as an aviation mechanic. Don was a lineman for Mon Power for over thirty-six years. He also was a co-founder of the Little Kanawha Track Club (LKTC) and was a certified Track and Field official for many years. But Don’s favorite place to be was in the woods with his chainsaw and his wife, Carol.
Don was a devout Christian, attending Glenville Christian Chapel (College Street), Sand Fork Church of God and First Crossroads Baptist Church.
On December 31, 1965 in Sutton, West Virginia, Don was united in marriage to Carol Sue Parsons, who survives him at their Alton home. They were blessed with three children: Sonja Sue Beamer, who preceded him in death in 2000, Monna Lynn (Dan) Gillespie and Barbara Ann (David) Jones; five grandchildren: Anna Sue (Dillon) Bonner, Zachary Adam (Amelia) Burkhammer, Ethan Ward Burkhammer, Jessica Nicole (James) Riffee and Alexander Bryant (Heidi) Jones; and eight great-grandchildren: Bryceon and Carson Bonner, Shyann Burkhammer, Katie, Darren and Josie Riffee and Ezra and Zayden Pistory. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends. Along with his parents and daughter, Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Keith Beamer, Ted Beamer and Ilene Kniceley.
Family and friends will be received at Powell Funeral Home at 1603 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, Virginia, on Wednesday, March 12th, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Visitation will be held at Ellyson Mortuary at 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, West Virginia, on Saturday, March 15th, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with burial at Meadow Lane Cemetery, Glenville, immediately following and Pastor Bryan Groves officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or to a charity of your choice.
