Layne Jenkins, 92 of Stumptown, WV; departed this earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior in the early afternoon hours of Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV following a brief illness.
He was born January 17, 1933 in the Normantown area of Gilmer County, WV; son of the late Albert C. and Golda E. (Vanhorn) Jenkins.
Layne is a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country with honor and distinction. He worked as an electrician/plumber for Glenville State College having retired in 1995. In his spare time, Layne enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, being outdoors, watching westerns on TV, and spending time with family and friends.
In April 1965, Layne was united in marriage to JoAnn (Lowther) Jenkins, who preceded him in death on December 7, 2015.
Surviving are 5 children, Debra Johnson of Glenville WV, Bill Johnson (Judy) of Smithville WV, David Johnson (Shari) of Mt. Zion WV, Barry Jenkins of Normantown, WV; Mark Jenkins (Debi) of Glenville; and Mike Jenkins of Chapel, WV; 9 grandchildren, Amie, Andrea, Nicki, Tiffany, Whitney, Erica, Jeremy, Jeffrey, and Adam; and 14 great-grandchildren Easton, Kali, Erica, Noah, Nicolis, Logan, Luke, Paityn, Parker, Taylor, Eloise, Anthony, Dylan, and Tyler.
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his wife (JoAnn) and parents (Albert and Golda), Layne is preceded in death by his brother, Melvin C. Jenkins, and infant brother, Albert Jr., and his former wife, Naomi Karickhoff.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Wednesday, April 30, 2025 with Pastor Roger Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM; Tuesday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
