Ethel Oleva Miller age 101 of Nokesville, Virginia, formerly of Sand Fork, West Virginia, departed this life in the afternoon hours of April 13, 2016 at the Glenville Care and Rehab Center, in Glenville, West Virginia, following an extended illness. Born July 20, 1914 in Gilmer County, Oleva was the daughter of the late George and Daisy Beckett Sponaugle.
Oleva was a graduate of Sand Fork High School and Glenville State College. She graduated college with a degree in teaching and taught school in Gilmer, Lewis, Calhoun and Harrison Counties before her retirement in 1977.
In her spare time, Oleva enjoyed travelling, shopping, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles, watching game shows on TV, and reading the Bible. Oleva’s true passion was her family. Her favorites times were spent with her family and friends. Oleva also loved to attend the Chapel Springs Assembly of God in Bistow, Virginia.
On February 17, 1931 Oleva was united in marriage to Warren Miller, who preceded her in death on November 1, 1985.
Surviving are 3 sons, Jack Miller and wife Juanita of Nokesville, Virginia, Jim Miller of Columbus, Ohio, and Joe Miller and wife Darlene of Silver Springs, Florida, and 1 brother George Sponaugle of Cedarville, West Virginia.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband and parents, Oleva was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Charlotte Moneypenny, 1 infant son, Warren Max Miller, 1 brother, David Sponaugle, and 2 sisters, Geneva Stout and Muriel Marshall.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc; 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 2:00 PM; Saturday April 23, 2016 with Rev. Kenny Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiney Cemetery in Linn, West Virginia. Friends may call from 1-2 PM; Saturday at the mortuary.
