Thomas Franklin “Tom” Moore Jr. age 84 of Glenville, WV departed this life on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, WV, following an extended illness. Born August 05, 1933 in Gilmer County, WV, Tom is the son of the late Thomas F. Sr. and Jamie Hall Moore. Tom was a graduate of Pennsboro High School in Pennsboro, WV, class of 1951. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked as a communication specialist for C & P Telephone of West Virginia with 35 years, 7 months, 28 days, and 3 1/2 hours of service, having retired at 12 Noon on December 24, 1992. Tom was a Methodist by faith, an avid outdoors man, a man who loved spending time with family and friends, and has been described as a “jack of all trades”. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Gilco Hunting Club, and Moose Lodge, and very proud to have been a player, manager, and coach of the Glenville Merchants Softball team. Surviving are his 5 children, Nicky Deem of Murrells Inlet, SC; Richard Moore and fiancée Monica Bennett of Belpre, OH; Debra Matherly and husband Les of Parkersburg, WV; Lesa Kirkley and husband Michael of Lancaster, SC; and James Moore and companion Terri Furr of Parkersburg. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, CT Greenlief ( Jennifer), Brook Smith (Chad), Kristen Losh (Gordy) , Stephanie Losh, Brandon Deem, and Ashley Wales (Richard), 11 great-grandchildren, Logan, Alexander, Abigail, Katilyn, Madison, Jamie Brylyn, eAdrian, Elysia, Kya, Alexxis, and Tristan; 2 sisters, Ellen Hall Hedges of West Palm Beach, FL and Patty Burkhammer (Ed) of Williamstown, WV; beloved brother-in-law, Frank Earl of Belmont, WV; his All American Softball Catcher, Candice Young and on October 31, 2017 at 12:05 PM he stopped loving her : Latricia S. “Pat” Moore. Along with his parents, Tom is preceded in death by 3 siblings, James H. Moore, Marybelle Smith, and Betty Earl. A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 2:00 PM, Saturday November 04, 2017 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Auburn Community Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM Saturday morning at the mortuary.
