Edith Virginia Lockard Ellyson, age 95 of Sinking Creek Road, departed this earthly life at 9:45 AM; Saturday, August 3, 2019 at her residence with her loving family at her side.
She was born July 22, 1924 in Gilmer County, WV daughter of the late Dorsey and Cora Lorentz Lockard.
Edith was a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. Following the war, Edith returned to Gilmer County and graduated from Tanner High School. She was a local business women and worked as a Beautician with over 50 years’ experience. In her spare time, Edith enjoyed Sewing, Knitting, cooking and caring for her family.
Edith enjoyed attending Sunday services at the Glenville Community Church and active in many community organizations over the years.
On July 27, 1946 Edith was united in marriage to Odbert Valjean Ellyson, who preceded her in death on November 11, 2011.
Surviving are 6 children, Doris Jean Adams and husband Rodney of Troy, WV, Gary Ted Ellyson of Gassaway, WV; Carmen Lee Smith and husband William of Sand Fork, WV; Larry Kurt Ellyson and wife Debbie of Indian Fork, WV; Clinton Jay Ellyson and wife Cindy of Summersville, WV; and Glendon Thomas Ellyson and wife Shelley of St. Mary’s, WV.
Also surviving are 12 loving grandchildren, 24 beautiful great-grandchildren, 2 amazing great great-grandchildren, and numerous other wonderful family and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Edith is preceded in death by her brother, Hubert Lockard, baby brother, Fred Lockard, 2 grandchildren, James Rodney and Michael Shane Adams, and 1 daughter-in-law, Lurene Scott-Ellyson.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc.; 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Wednesday, August 7, 2019 with Pastor Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Lane Cemetery near Glenville. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM; Wednesday at the mortuary in Glenville.
