Linda Mae Bailey, age 74 of Normantown, WV; departed this world for her eternal home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV; following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born August 7, 1945 in Normantown, daughter of the late Carry and Maud Sumpter James.
Linda is a graduate of Normantown High School, class of 1963 and she worked as a teacher’s aide for the Gilmer County Board of Education having retired in the early 2000’s. Linda is a long term member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, having attended for over 50 years.
Linda is the secretary/treasurer of the Normantown Alumni Association, member of the Martha’s and Mary’s Women’s Club, member of the American Baptist Women’s Club, CEOS, Parchment Valley, Goldeneers, and she was very active in the Gilmer County Cancer Unit.
In her spare time, Linda enjoyed working puzzles, spoiling her loving husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and caring for her church and church family.
On December 20, 1963 Linda was united in marriage to Donald “Don” Kemper Bailey, who survives at their Normantown home.
Surviving are 2 children, Debbie Allen and husband Randy of Perkins, WV; and Todd Bailey and wife Becky of Normantown, 3 grandchildren, Joshua Allen and wife Chelsea of Burnsville, WV; Jessica Lenart and husband Gregg of Wellington, OH; and Jeremiah Allen and wife Kaitlyn of Perkins, and 3 great-grandchildren, Carson Allen, Hallie Lenart, and Zoey Allen.
Also surviving are 2 siblings, Jerry James and wife Anna and Mescal Kuhl of Normantown, 1 nephew, Cody James of Morgantown, WV; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Along with her parents, Linda is preceded in death by an infant brother, Cecil Lee James, and brother-in-law, Bernard Kuhl.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Wednesday, November 27, 2019 with Rev. Tim Underwood and Elder Larry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Beall Cemetery on Steer Run Road, near Normantown. Friends will be received from 4:00–7:00 PM; Tuesday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Linda’s honor to the Glenville, First Baptist Church Cancer Fund.
