Richard Glen Hayhurst Sr., 74 of Weston, WV; (Jackson’s Mill Community) departed this earthly life in the morning hours of Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born April 30, 1947 in Wyatt, WV; son of the late Oscar and Alice Gripper Hayhurst. Richard is a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He worked as a coal miner for a time and was also the Owner/Operator of Hayhurst Construction. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, spending time outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible. He was a Christian by faith and attended Sunday services at the Church of God of Prophecy in Sand Fork before his illness. He is a former Sunday School Superintendent and was instrumental in the construction of the current Church of God of Prophecy. On April 20, 1968 Richard was united in marriage to Loretta Elaine Keith Hayhurst, who survives at their Lewis County home. Surviving are 2 children, Richard Hayhurst Jr., of Weston, WV and Tracy Hayhurst and fiancée, Jamie Goodwin of Weston, and 11 siblings, Robert Hayhurst (Nancy), Roger Hayhurst, Susie Skidmore, Warren Tichnell (Gina), Larry Tichnell, Mike Tichnell, Danny Tichnell, Margie Heldreth (Okey), Glen Tichnell, Tony Hayhurst (Angie), and Jason Hayhurst, and his step-mother, Sharon Hayhurst of Salem, WV. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Tandra and Robert Hull, Skyler Logan Hayhurst, Trenton Varner, Richard Hayhurst III, Kyle Hayhurst, and Kayla Hayhurst, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends. Along with his parents, Richard is preceded in death by 2 siblings, Betsy Hayhurst and Bobby Tichnell A funeral service will be conducted at the Church of God of Prophecy in Sand Fork, WV; at 1:00 PM; Saturday, April 23, 2022 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Following services in the church, Full Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery on Dusk Camp Run Road. Friends will be received from 11:00 – 1:00 Saturday at the Church in Sand Fork.
