Neil Thomas McPherson, 35, of Orlando, WV; (Oil Creek Community) departed this life suddenly on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at his home on McCauley Run Road. He was born February 25, 1987 in Weston, WV; son of Jerry McPherson of Orlando, WV; and Kathy Venable Cummings and husband George of Luray, VA. Neil is a graduate of Luray High School in Luray, VA; and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Virginia Tech University. He was previously employed as the Director of the Senior Employment program at Central West Virginia Aging. Neil was an animal lover and leaves behind 2 beloved dogs, Sweetie and Peanut. He loved basketball and Virginia Tech and West Virginia University sports. As an adult, Neil returned to West Virginia where he enjoyed cooking, gardening, and canning. He enjoyed a wide array of music from Casting Crowns to Dave Matthews, and was a Christian by faith. Neil’s passion in life was helping others and he was always thinking of ways to give back. He was open about his own struggles and helped many by always having a kind heart and listening ear. When you think of Neil, celebrate the good memories you have of him and remember that life is short and fragile. Along with his parents, Neil is survived by sisters, Lindsay Raeburn and husband Brett and Marisa Cummings, niece, Lennon Cummings, nephew, Porter Raeburn, and grandmothers, Louise Fultz and Mary Lee McPherson. Also surviving is a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends. Neil is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Franklin Venable and Thomas A. “Tom” McPherson. A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Wednesday, August 17, 2022 with Pastor Tony Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in the McPherson Cemetery near Burnsville. Friends will be received from 11:00 – 1:00 Wednesday at the mortuary in Glenville. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Tom McPherson Athletic Scholarship Fund at Glenville State University or simply check in with a friend regarding their mental health.
