With his favorite song being “That Heavenly Home” especially sung by the Fisher Family, Walden Dean Furr went to his heavenly home on Monday, November 7, 2022 after a brief stay at Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg, WV. Dean was very close to observing his 91st birthday as he was born on November 11, 1931. Dean was the second child born to John Orval and Monnie Irene (Stout) Furr. He was born on Crooked Run and raised on Barbeque, both located in Gilmer County. Dean was a graduate of Normantown High School Class of 1949 and a faithful attendee of the Normantown High School Alumni Association reunions. It was during high school that Dean met and married his high school sweetheart, Deloris Dean (Kuhl) Furr who survives him at his home in Letter Gap. They celebrated 69 years of marriage in March 2022. In 1952, Dean enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was assigned to the 4925th Atomic Test Group and stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After his service to his country, Dean returned to West Virginia and started working for Hope Natural Gas Company, starting in Weston, WV and finishing in Grantsville, WV after 35 years of service. Dean was a Baptist by faith and a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Stumptown, WV and also attended Dawson Baptist Church just a few miles from his home. His Christian faith was shared with others by his many years of singing bass with the Apostleaires and the Gospel Tones Quartets. Dean never knew a stranger and enjoyed the simpler things in life like talking with friends on his CB radio, listening to gospel music, gardening, admiring antique cars, watching the deer graze in the evenings, seeing the contrails from planes in the sky and the companionship of his beloved cat, Munchie, who misses him very much. Along with his wife, Dean is survived by his three children, Lori (Eddie) Radcliff, Brad (Renee) Furr and Lisa (Jim) Law. He is also survived by his sister, Wilma Jamison, several nieces and nephews and many friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Denzil, sisters, Wanda, Wilda and Willa Jean and an infant brother who died at birth. Funeral services will be conducted at Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Dr., Glenville, WV 26351 at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 13, 2022 with Elder Larry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Community Cemetery, Stumptown, WV with Full Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and Lewis County Honor Guard. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Saturday evening at the Mortuary in Glenville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of your choice.
