William Lyda “Bill” Jones, 79 of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life in the late evening hours of Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born November 2, 1943 in Linn, WV; son of the late Kenneth and Mary Helen Metz Jones. Bill is a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1962. He worked as a heavy equipment operator/mechanic for most of his working life, having helped build Interstate 79. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed Farming, spending time with family and friends, living the quiet life in and around the Normantown area, spoiling his grandkids whenever possible, and attending Sunday services at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he and Barbara were members. On September 13, 1991 Bill was united marriage to Barbara Jean Landis Jones who preceded him in death on July 4, 2020. Surviving are 3 sons, Billy Jones (Dawna) of Orlando, WV, Jerry Jones (Rebecca) of Wallace, WV, and Tommy Jones of Folson, WV, and 1 daughter, Patti McDaniel (Lynn) of Folson, WV, 9 grandchildren, Casey Pignanelli, Travis Pignanelli, Brenna Ketthisak (Aaron), Brandon Jones, Jordan Gump, Jared Jones, Lyda Jones, and Jesse Daniel Landis, and 6 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ashlyn, Oaklyn, AJ, Dominic, and Jameson. Also surviving are 5 siblings, Linda Newsom (Willie) of Johnstown, OH; John Jones (Debbie) of Lockney, WV; David Jones (Sherry) of Sand Fork, WV; Mike Jones of Jane Lew, WV; and Dennis Jones (Debora) of Wooster, OH; step daughter-in-law, Lisa Landis of Normantown, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends. Along with his wife and parents, Bill is preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Jones, step-son, Kenneth Landis, and a brother, Joe Jones. A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 2:00 PM; Sunday, March 12, 2023 with Pastor Bill Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Hiney Cemetery near Linn, WV. Friends will be received from 12:00 noon – 2:00 PM; Sunday at the mortuary in Glenville. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Glenville Cancer Fund, 217 East Main Street, Glenville, WV 26351, ATTN: FBC Cancer Fund.
