Rodney Wayne Smith, 80, of Normantown, WV; departed this earthly life peacefully at home in the morning hours of Thursday, May 30, 2024.
He was born October 25, 1943 in Orton, WV; son of the late Ralph and Floda (McCartney) Smith.
Rodney grew up in Orton and is a graduate of Normantown High School, class of 1961. He worked at Abex Metal Foundry in Elyria, OH; with 35 years’ experience, having retired as a plant superintendent. After retirement, he and his wife Norma returned to the Normantown area to watch their grandkids grow up.
In his years of retirement, Rodney enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding ATV’s and Side-by-sides. He also loved spending time with family and friends, attending bluegrass festivals with his children, and grandchildren, and he was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist church in Stumptown.
Rodney was a great man to his family and everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed and was considered to be Pawpaw to everyone. He will also be remembered for his woodworking skills and made things for everyone in the community.
On October 25, 1963, Rodney was united in marriage to Norma Dean (Kennedy) Smith, who preceded him in death on November 27, 2016
Surviving are 2 children, Sandra McNemar and husband Gene of Normantown and Randy Smith and wife Teresa of West Salem, OH; and 1 brother, Rabon Smith and wife Andrea of Grafton, OH.
Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Jodie Fisher (Wyatt) and Tyler McNemar (Jenna) of Normantown, 3 step-grandchildren, Steve Sandy (Tiffany) of West Salem, OH; Stacy Wilson (Josh) Copen, WV, and Brandi Christian (Timothy) of Rutledge, TN; special nephew, Harold Smith of Grafton, OH; several step-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, church family, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his wife and parents, Rodney was preceded in death by 6 siblings, Nelda Whited, twins Haymond and Hayward Smith, Melva Krause, Wyonna Stevens, and infant Loretta Smith.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church along WV Hwy 33 West in Stumptown, WV; at 1:00 PM; Tuesday, June 4, 2024 with Pastor Tim Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Community Cemetery in Stumptown. Friends will be received from 12 noon-1:00pm Tuesday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 1404 Goodale Blvd #200, Columbus, OH 43212 in honor of Rodney.
