Donald R. “Don” Rowe, 73 of Charleston, WV; (formerly of Gilmer County) departed this earthly life in the afternoon hours of Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV; following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born October 31, 1950 in Akron, OH; son of the late Robert and Irene (Wine) Rowe.
Don is a graduate of Spencer High School, class of 1969. He is also a United States Army veteran having served in the Armored Calvary Division with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his military career, Don worked for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection where he dealt with accounts payable.
In his spare time, Don enjoyed supporting his grandkids and the activities they were involved in, watching baseball, football, and NASCAR, attending baseball games in Charleston, and attending car shows with his friends. Don was also a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Charleston.
On November 1, 1977 Don was united in marriage to Jo Loraine (Jenkins) Rowe, who survives at their Charleston home.
From that union, 2 children survive, Michelle Murray and husband Nicholas of Charleston, WV; and Douglas Rowe and wife Jodi of Big Springs, WV; and 5 grandchildren, Lilian, Kathryn, and Owen Murray and Brylee and Brodyn Rowe.
Also surviving is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by a sister, Frances Daugherty.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 1:00 PM; Saturday, October 26, 2024 with Pastor Gary Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Turner Cemetery near Normantown, WV; with full military honors provided by the United States Army. Friends will be received from 5:00 – 8:00 PM; Friday, October 25, 2024 at the mortuary in Glenville, WV.
