Delphia Alice Phares age 92 of Cedarville, West Virginia, departed this life Thursday morning December 31, 2015 at the Braxton County Memorial Hospital, in Gassaway, West Virginia, following an extended illness.
Delphia was born on July 14, 1923 in Strange Creek, Braxton County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Sullivan Isaac and Malinda Alice Loving Frame.
She was a homemaker and seamstress. She enjoyed taking care of her family, quilting and canning vegetables she raised. She enjoyed collecting arrowheads and unusual rocks. She also had friends and family members send her rocks from different parts of the world. Woodworking, hunting Ginseng, and collecting seashells on the beach were her favorite hobbies. She was a world traveler having made a trip to England and Ireland in 1999. She had many friends in her community and her home was a magnet for neighborhood children.
On August 28, 1945 she was united in marriage to Charlie James Phares, who preceded her in death on October 26, 1994.
She is survived by two sons: David (Barbra) Phares of Glenville and Stephen (Barbara) Phares of Palestine, WV; two daughters: Sharon Brannon of Cedarville and Sheba (David) Kendig of Burnsville; one step-daughter: Monnie (William) Simpson of Houston, TX. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren: Kenny Davis, John Davis, Boyd Davis, Shana Phares, Kris Snyder, Julian Phares, Jason Phares, Micheal Phares, Patrick Phares, Larry Phares, Marsha Tompkins, David Phares II, Alex Phares, Jeremiah Phares, Christopher Williamson, Andrew Williamson, Adam Kendig, Ashley Kendig, Jonas Phares, Charlie Phares, and Stephen Vincent Phares.
She is also survived by 2 daughters in law; Sharon Phares of Glenville, and Sharon Smith of Linn, 1 son in law; Clarence Williamson of Glenville, 38 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, Delphia was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Shena Rae Williamson and 2 sons, James Owen Phares and Larry Lee Phares. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by 6 siblings: Norman Frame, Addison Frame, Alva Talbert, Clara Taylor, Eva Talbert, and Reva McCullen.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, West Virginia, 26351 at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 3, 2016 with Elder Larry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedarville Cemetery on Cedar Creek Road. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM, Saturday evening at the Mortuary.
