Helen P. Steele, age 85 of Sliding Run Road, Burnsville, WV; (Gilmer County) departed this earthly life in the early morning hours of Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Genesis Health Care Glenville Center in Glenville, WV following an extended illness.
She was born April 4, 1934 in Pricetown, WV; daughter of the late Willard J. and Bessie Grogg Montgomery.
Helen attended grade school at the head of Sliding Run at Rudkin and finished her schooling at the Sand Fork High School. She worked as a housekeeper for several different families over the years and was a member and attended Locust Knob Church of Christ until the church closed in the early 1990’s. She then attended the Glenville Church of Christ, when her health would allow.
In her spare time, Helen loved working in her many flower beds, taking care of her houseplants, going to yard sales with her dear friend Johan, and caring for her house cat, Phobie. Helen’s true passion in life was caring for her children, grandchildren, and extended family, whom she loved with all her heart.
Surviving are 3 children, Sharon Radabaugh and husband Bob of Sand Fork, WV; Patricia Lowther of Glenville, WV; and Jeff Steele and wife Royce of Sliding Run, 1 sister Elizabeth Lowther and husband Avin of Linn, WV; and 1 sister-in-law, Rose Montgomery of Ellis Road.
Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Rae-Anna Lowther and husband Nathan, Tyler Steele and fiancée McKenze Yanero, Josh Lowther, Lucas Steele, and Jeremy Radabaugh, 1 great-grandson, Neo Nash Capleton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful loving family and friends.
Along with her parents, Helen is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jim and Bill Montgomery and her former husband Tom Steele.
The family of Helen Steele would like to take this opportunity to thank the Genesis Health Care, Glenville Center and WV Caring for their kindness and help while caring for Helen these last several months.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 AM; Saturday February 8, 2020 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Knob Cemetery on Sliding Run Road. Friends will be received from 5:00 – 8:00 PM; Friday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests making a donation to your local animal shelter or volunteer your time to a needy cause.
